Camels earn first CAA win at Elon

Elon, N.C.  - The Fighting Camels earned their first CAA victory of the season with a five-set win at Elon Saturday night. The Camels took the first two sets before Elon picked up the third and fourth. Campbell held on and had one final push in the fifth to earn the 3-2 win.

The win snaps a 10-match losing streak to get Campbell to 3-14, 1-6 in CAA play. Elon falls to 10-8, 4-3.

Campbell controlled the match early with a 25-17 first-set victory. Gwen Wolkow got off to a hot start with 6 kills in the opening frame. She paced the offense which totaled 12 kills and just two errors in the first.

Ashley Artura had a big second set, serving four aces including three in a row late in the frame to help the Camels win the second 25-19. Artura finished with six aces on the day, the most by a Camel this season.

Elon stormed back to even the score with a pair of dominant sets in the third and fourth. The Campbell offense slowed down during the middle sets, unable to hit over .100 in either frame. The Phoenix won the third set 25-11, and the fourth 25-12 to force the deciding set. 

Campbell's defense closed the book on the match, holding Elon to just one kill and six errors in the final set to deliver the Camels a 15-7 win.

Wolkow led the way with 14 kills, just shy of a double-double with nine digs. Riley Dean had a team-high 13 digs, while Maddie Converse handed out a 18 assists.

The Camels are back in action tomorrow at  3 p.m. against the Phoenix.
