Camels roll by Stony Brook 6-0

Six different Camels net goals

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Six different Camels scored as Campbell rolled to a 6-0 win over Stony Brook on Alumni Day Saturday afternoon at the Eakes Athletics Complex.

Samy Slimi recorded his fourth shutout in the nets for Campbell (6-2-4, 2-1-1), who picked up its first CAA home win of the season. The Camels limited Stony Brook (2-5-3, 0-3-2) to just five shots on the day including just two on goal.

"It was great to see the goals come," said head coach Dustin Fonder following the match. "We've been working really hard in training. Both through the run of play and set pieces; scoring in a variety of ways is very pleasing. But what was more pleasing to us was that we got our defensive responsibilities right and got back to keeping a clean sheet."

Campbell opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Owen Mikoy headed in his first goal of the season off a corner from Tai-Reece Chisholm. Luc Lavielle added another goal, his second in as many games, off an assist from Filipe Matos in the 26th minute.

Jake Roberts scored his first career goal in the 63rd minute on a header after receiving a cross into the middle of the box from Ethan Roberts. Four minutes later, Chisholm added another goal after receiving a pass in front of the net from Evans Dapaah

Ethan Roberts drew a foul inside the box in the 77th minute, setting up a penalty kick goal by Curtis De Leon. Carson Pina capped off the scoring with a right-footed rocket into the bottom right of the net on an assist from Sam Roberson in the 87th minute.

The Camels' six goals marked the most in a match since a 7-0 win over Winthrop in the 2021 Big South Championship semifinal.

Campbell players, coaches and staff members from the last six decades were recognized for their contributions over the years from NAIA national powerhouse teams of the 60s and 70s, through 14 NCAA conference titles, national rankings and more.

"It's huge we wanted to honor the alumni," Fonder said when asked about what the win meant on Alumni Day. "We were fortunate enough to score some goals and make it an enjoyable game. They were here before us and they built this program so anytime they come back we want to honor them and play as best as we can."

The Camels return to action at Coastal Carolina in non-conference action Tuesday at 7 PM.
