Camels down Newberry, 83-40

BUIES CREEK - Campbell got back in the win column with an 80-43 win over Newberry (DII) Wednesday night at Gore Arena. Campbell used a 29-0 run in the first half to gain plenty of early separation and propel the win.

The win gets Campbell to 2-2 as they hit the road for nearly three weeks, with the next home game not until Dec. 4.

Campbell once again featured a balanced scoring attack, led by Bragi Gudmundsson's game-high 14 points. Eric Van Der Heijden added 10, while six other players scored at least seven points.

Jasin Sinani scored just two points, but did a little bit of everything else to lead the team in rebounds (7), assists (3), steals (3), and blocks (1).

The Camels came out firing and connected on five of their first six three-point attempts to fuel a 29-0 run that saw Campbell lead 32-2 just 11 minutes into the contest. Campbell held that lead to take a 42-14 lead into halftime after shooting 53% both from the floor and from distance.

Newberry knocked down more shots in the second half, but the Camels still won the second half 41-26. Eric Van Der Heijden knocked down a couple of triples in the second half to help lead all second-half scorers with 10.

The defense was active all night and forced 22 turnovers leading to 29 points off turnovers. The Camels coughed it up just eight times themselves, a season-best. Those turnovers also led to transition opportunities to score 17 points off fast breaks.

Campbell plays the first of four straight road games this Sunday at Navy. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Annapolis, and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
