Camels fall to Stony Brook in four sets

BUIES CREEK - Campbell fell to Stony Brook in four sets Friday night in the penultimate game of the season. Gwen Wolkow had a strong outing with 19 kills, the second-most of her career and her most in a four-set match.

The loss drops Campbell to 6-21, 4-13, while Stony Brook remains in the hunt for the postseason at 15-12, 8-9 in the CAA.

The first set could've gone either way with the frame tied at 20-20. Stony Brook rallied late to score five of the last six points to capture the set 25-21 and take an early advantage. Emily Campe had a fast start for Campbell with six kills in the opener.

Campbell drew even with a narrow 27-25 second-set win. Wolkow was at her best in the second with eight kills on .538 hitting in the set. With Stony Brook at set point, Wolkow did all the work and put away three straight points to tie, take the lead, and win the set.

The Seawolves bounced back with the largest set win of the night, a 25-18 third. The set didn't feel lopsided as Campbell led 17-16, but surrendered another late run to the guests to drop the set and go down 2-1.

Stony Brook put things away in the fourth at 25-20. It was again close through much of the frame, this time tied at 17-17 before a late surge provided the difference.

Kali Moore, the CAA's kills leader, logged 24 kills for Stony Brook to lead all players.

Emily Campe joined Wolkow in double figures with 11 kills. Four players had 10+ digs, led by 16 from Riley Dean. Madde Converse dished out a team-high 23 assists.

Campbell is back in action tomorrow for Senior Day and the season finale at 1 p.m.
