CORAL GABLES, FLA.- Cameron Williams scored 20 points as Miami held off Campbell 71-66 Friday evening at the Watsco Center.
Olivia Tucker led Campbell (3-2) with her second-straight 20 point game while Gianni Boone added 14. Gemma Nunez dished out 10 assists, grabbed 5Â boards and had two steals.Â
The Hurricanes (5-0), who are receiving votes in the latest AP Poll, knocked down 11 of 16 shots and led by as many as 22 in the first quarter.Â
Campbell charged back in the second quarter as Olivia Tucker scored seven and Hadleigh Dill added six to cut Miami's lead to 42-31 at the intermission.Â
The Camels went on an 11-2 run in the first 2:47 of the fourth period, capped off by a three from Audrey Fuller. Campbell held Miami scoreless for 4:24 and trimmed the deficit to three on a pair of free throws from Jasmine Felton with 1:49 left.
Miami pushed its lead back to six as Daniela Abies made a second-chance layup and Ahnay Adams added a free throw. Courtney Dahlquist cut the lead three again by hitting a three with 10 seconds remaining but never got a chance to get closer.
Campbell shot 41 percent from the floor, made 10 threes and shot 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. The Hurricanes shot 48.3 percent (28-of-58) overall, 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from three and made 9-of-15 free throws. Miami outscored Campbell 42-22 in the paint, 24-15 off turnovers and 11-2 on breaks.Â
Williams finished 9-of-10 from the floor and added seven boards for Miami while Haley Cavinder had 15 points, seven boards and five assists.
Campbell returns to action next Tuesday against Furman for the first of three games in three days at the Georgia State Thanksgiving Tournament.Â
