Camels lose close at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - Campbell fell to UVA 65-56 in the first road test of the season Wednesday night at John Paul Jones Arena. The Camels hung close all night in a game with six lead changes and no lead larger than 12.

The loss drops Campbell to 1-1 on the year, while UVA sits at 1-0 following their season opener.

In a stark contrast from the season opener, Campbell was reliant on the three-pointer tonight, taking 29 shots from beyond the arc and connecting on 11 of them. That turned into just four free throw attempts for the game, as opposed to the 36 Campbell took in the opener.

The Camels were hot early, connecting on four threes in the first six minutes as part of six first-half triples. Nolan Dorsey capped the first half with a three at the horn from the left wing to send Campbell to the break down 35-26.

Campbell came out firing again in the second half to hit five threes, including three on three straight possessions during a stretch. Unfortunately, the well ran dry in the final stretch as the offense went just 1-8 late from distance.

As the threes stopped falling Campbell worked the ball inside and cut the lead to as few as five with less than two minutes to play, but couldn't draw closer and ultimately fell 65-56.

While no Camels finished with double-figures, it was another balanced scoring effort by Campbell. Colby Duggan had a team-high nine as one of four players that scored at least eight points. Eight different players knocked down a triple as well. Jasin Sinani led the way on the glass with a game-high seven rebounds.

Campbell turned the ball over only nine times and forced UVA into 11 turnovers. The Camels also made the most of seven offensive rebounds to turn those into 10 second chance points.

Jacob Cofie posted a game-high 16 points for Virginia has one of four players in double figures for the Cavaliers.

The Camels are back in action Sunday afternoon at home against St. Francs. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. in Buies Creek.
