Camels suffer setback to Longwood

BUIES CREEK - The Camels fell behind big in the first half and couldn't catch up in a 77-55 loss to Longwood at home on Wednesday night.

The setback moves Campbell to 5-7, while Longwood improves to 10-3 on the year.

Colby Duggan led the way with 13 points thanks to going 4-5 from beyond the arc. Duggan was  the only Camel to score in double figures, though 10 different Camels scored on the evening.

The Camels started hot and led 8-0 after three minutes. It was all Longwood after that, as a 30-4 run put the Lancers well in front and with a lead as many as 20. The Camels closed on a 6-0 run to trail 34-20 at the half. Caleb Zurliene led the Camels with six points and three boards at the break.

Campbell shot marginally better in the second half, largely thanks to all four of Duggan's triples coming after the break. Despite his efforts, Campbell couldn't chip into the lead as Longwood pushed the deficit to as many as 28 with four minutes to play before the 77-55 final tally.

The Camels struggled with the Lancers' size, surrendering 40 points in the paint and scoring just 18 themselves. Campbell also gave up a season-high 15 offensive rebounds that led to 14 second-chance points.

Campbell issued only six assists on their 15 made field goals while turning it over 14 times.

Longwood was led by Johan Nziemi's 13 points as one of three in double figures.

Campbell takes off around Christmas and returns to action on Dec. 29 against North Carolina in the first-ever meeting between the Camels and Tar Heels. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. in Chapel Hill  and will be streamed on the ACC Network.
