Duggan scores 32 in loss at North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Colby Duggan poured in a career-high 32 but the Camels came up short in a 97-81 loss at North Carolina in the Dean Smith Center on Sunday night.

The loss leaves Campbell at 5-8 at the conclusion of non-conference play, while North Carolina improves to 8-5.

Duggan's performance marks the most points ever scored by a Camel against an ACC opponent, and third-most against any power conference team. It also ties for 15th most points by any visiting player in the Dean Dome, and fifth-most by a mid-major player in the building that opened in 1986. It's also the most by any player against North Carolina this season, and his five threes tie the most by a Tar Heel opponent.

The Camels got a loud first bucket off a dribble-drive dunk from Caleb Zurliene on the first possession as Campbell battled throughout the first half. The lead changed hands four times in the early going, though Campbell did not lead again after going up 9-7. Duggan had 13 in the opening 20 minutes thanks to three first-half threes before a Tar Heel buzzer-beater sent the hosts to the half ahead 40-29.

Both the Camels and Heels got hotter in the second half and played 57-52 in the second half in favor of Carolina. Campbell shot 60% from the floor in the second half including going 6-9 from beyond the arc. Duggan really got rolling after the break and added 19 points to his line. Sinani, who battled a bloody nose all night, added 10 in the second half and finished with 15.

Duggan finished with a final line of 32 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Cam Gregory also scored in double figures with 14 points and four boards.

Campbell connected on 10 three-pointers on the night, half of those from Duggan, and went 15-20 at the charity stripe.

Campbell kept pace with one of the nation's fastest teams with seven fast-break points apiece on the night (UNC entered #19 in the nation at 16.1 per game). Campbell also outscored Carolina 12-7 off turnovers with each team coughing it up seven times.

The Camels now await the beginning of CAA play, beginning Thursday night in Buies Creek against Drexel. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. on FloCollege.
