BLACKSBURG, VA. - Four players scored in double-figures and Virginia Tech led wire-to-wire in a 81-46 win over Campbell Saturday afternoon at Cassell Coliseum.
Matilda Ekh scored 13 points of her game-high 15 points in the first quarter for the Hokies (9-3) who led 19-10 after the opening period.
Campbell (6-5) trimmed the deficit to six with 6:25 to go in the second period as Ciara Alexander drove into the paint for the basket and foul. Virginia Tech answered by closing the first half on an 11-2 run and never looked back, leading 39-24 at the half and 57-30 after the third period.
Virginia Tech shot 50.0 percent (29-of-58) overall, 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from three and knocked down 14-of-19 free throws. Campbell shot 34.0 percent (18-of-53) overall and made 10-of-20 free throws. The Hokies held Campbell 0-13 from three, snapping a 90 game consecutive streak with a made three.
The Hokies scored 27 points off 21 CU turnovers, held a 38-30 edge on boards and held a slight 36-32 edge in points in the paint.
Mackenzie Nelson added 14 points while Rose Micheaux finished with 10 and Carys Baker recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards.
Jasmine Felton led the Camels with 11 points while Alexander finished with 10 on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor.
Campbell returns to action back at Gore Arena in its final non-conference game on Dec. 30 against Bethune-Cookman.
