Coastal holds off Campbell, 58-57

BUIES CREEK - It was a tale of two halves for Campbell in a 58-57 loss to Coastal Carolina Wednesday night in Gore Arena. Campbell mustered just 17 points in the first half before a 40-point second half saw the team come up just short.

The loss drops Campbell to 4-5, while Coastal moves to 4-4.

Campbell struggled to get anything going on offense in the first, shooting just 16% and 8% from distance (1-12). Cam Gregory tossed in an early triple before the Camels entered an 11 minute scoring drought and trailed by as many as 16. CU played steady defense as Coastal struggled at the stripe too, and kept Campbell in striking distance, down 26-17 at the break.

Campbell fought back to erase the deficit and take their first lead at the 13:40 mark of the second half. From there it was a back-and-forth game with 12 total lead changes in the second  half. The offense was much improved, shooting 48% from the floor and 40% from beyond the arc in the second half.

Down three with the ball, Campbell settled for a two-pointer and put Coastal back on the line with two seconds to play After a missed free throw and timeout, Caleb Zurliene had his potential game-winner bounce off the rim and the Camels fell by a point, 58-57.

Terren Frank tied for a game-high with 20 points and added two steals and two blocks. Cam Gregory finished with 14 and Colby Duggan added 13, all in the second half. Nolan Dorsey led the way on the glass with seven boards.

Noah Amenhauser paced the Chanticleers 20 points, while RaSheed Jones added 10.

The Fighting Camels now have a week off for exams before a road trip to The Citadel next Thursday night. That one tips at 7 p.m.  on ESPN+.
