BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Monmouth defeated Campbell 53-49 in a game that featured 11 lead changes and five ties Friday night at Gore Arena.
Campbell drops to 12-11 overall and 5-7 in CAA play while the Hawks improve to 15-8 and 8-4 in the league.
Christabel Ezumah tallied her sixth double-double of the season, finishing with 16 points, 12 rebounds along with three assists, two blocks and two steals. Svenia Nurenberg recorded nine points and seven rebounds while Shy Tuelle added seven points for the Camels.
Ariana Vanderhoop finished as the only player for Monmouth in double-figures with 10 points with Taisha Exanor, Belle Kranbuhl, and Ella Farrelly adding eight points each. Kranbuhl also added 11 boards and three blocks for the Hawks.
Campbell used a 9-0 run to end the second quarter and held a 26-20 advantage at the intermission. The Camels maintained their lead for most of the third quarter until a 8-2 Monmouth run gave the Hawks a 39-38 edge heading to the final period.
Brittany Staves tied the game at 48-48 with 2:43 remaining before Vanderhoop scored on a jumper in the paint and added a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to seal the game.
Campbell shot 42.6 percent (20-of-47) from the floor but made just 1-of-11 threes and 8-of-13 free throws. Monmouth shot 36.0 percent (18-of-50) from the floor, 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from three and converted 15-of-23 free throws.
CU returns to action back at home Sunday as it hosts William & Mary at 2:00 PM.
