PHILADELPHIA – Campbell dropped Saturday's contest 81-66 at Drexel inside the Daskalakis Athletics Center. The loss gives Campbell its first weekend in league play without a win.
Campbell falls to 12-15, 6-8, while Drexel improves to 17-10, 10-4 in the CAA.
The Camels shot just 39% on the afternoon, their worst since the game at Towson on Jan. 20. CU shot just 24% from beyond the arc at 5-21. Campbell has had success in the paint lately, and still came away with 36 paint points, but it was clogged up with seven Drexel blocks on the day.
Anthony Dell'Orso posted a game-high 23 points to go with four rebounds and a pair of assists. The sophomore scored 15 of his 23 in the second half.
Jasin Sinani added 16 on the day and
Laurynas Vaistaras joined them in double figures with 11.
Drexel's scoring was led by Luke House's 18 points as he connected for six three-pointers on the afternoon. Koba MaGee added 15 points for the home side.
The Camels had things tied at 11-11 early before a 19-4 Drexel run left the Camels doubled-up at 30-15. Campbell worked to keep the deficit there and trailed by 12 at the half. Campbell committed just three first-half turnovers but shot only 37% to find themselves down 38-26 heading to the locker room.
The deficit became as large as 27 in the second half as the threes kept falling for Drexel who finished 14-31 from downtown. Campbell kept grinding and shortened the lead to 12 once again with 1:43 to play, but that was as close as things would get in the 81-66 final.
Campbell was out-rebounded 40-29 on the afternoon, and 11 Drexel offensive boards turned into 13 second chance points. Campbell won the turnover battle on the afternoon, finishing with only six while forcing 14.
Campbell returns to action at home Thursday night against Hampton. The Pirates are coming off their first CAA win of the season today at home against Towson. Tip-off in Buies Creek is set for 7 p.m.
