BUIES CREEK – Campbell fell 72-68 to Hampton Thursday night inside Gore Arena.
Anthony Dell'Orso led all scorers with 23, but Campbell shot just 37.5% as a team in the contest.
The loss drops Campbell to 12-16, 6-9 in the CAA, while Hampton moves to 7-21, 2-13 with its second straight league win. Campbell splits the regular season meetings with the Pirates after an earlier win on Jan. 6.
Dell'Orso led all scorers with 23, his sixth straight game with at least 20 points.
Laurynas Vaistaras was the only other Camel in double figures with 10.
Hampton was led by Jordan Nesbitt's 21 points on 7-22 from the floor.
Campbell turned the ball over just seven times on the night, one of the lowest marks on the season, but was beat on the glass 46-34. The Camels also left some points at the stripe shooting 11-16 tonight including a few missed front-ends of 1-and-1s.
The Camels led by as many as six in the first half but allowed Hampton to work back into it and get a bucket at the horn to leave Campbell down 33-31 at the break. Dell'Orso had 12 points at the break on just 3-4 from the floor and 4-4 at the stripe.
Hampton found its offense in the second half and shot 46% from the floor. The Pirates pushed the lead to as may as seven with under seven minutes left, but Campbell fought back and took the lead with two minutes to go on a Dell'Orso stepback three. That turned out to be the last lead Campbell would have as the defense was unable to get consecutive stops and scores down the stretch and fell 72-68.
Campbell returns to action Monday night against UNCW in an 8:30 p.m. tip-off on CBS Sports Network.
