Camels fall at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Camels fell to Charleston 96-73 Thursday night at TD Arena. Campbell shot 49% on the night, but 19 turnovers hindered the effort to keep up with Charleston's 15 made triples.

The loss drops Campbell to 13-17, 7-10 in the CAA while Charleston improves to 23-7, 14-4.

Campbell connected for 10 triples on the night, which was just enough to keep pace with Charleston's Reyne Smith, who hit 10 himself on the evening en route to a game-high 32 points on 10-15 from beyond the arc. Charleston finished the game 15-38 from distance, tying the most against CU this season.

Charleston started hot and stayed hot in the first half on their way to a 55-33 halftime lead. The Cougars connected on four of their first five attempts from deep to start the game and go up by 12 within six minutes. The Camels got hot themselves from distance, capped with a Vaistaras three to cut the deficit to just three. Charleston answered with a 12-0 run in just 1:26, hitting four threes on four possessions, three of them coming from Smith.

Dell'Orso had a solid first half to lead Campbell with 12 points at the break.

Campbell wasn't able to draw any closer after halftime despite shooting 50% from the floor. Mokseckas led the way in the second with 10 points, including threes on three straight possessions. Campbell largely kept pace with the Cougars in the second half, but ultimately fell 96-73.

Dell'Orso added nine points in the second half for 21 on the night, his eighth straight game with at least 20 points. Against CU's 13 league opponents this season, he scored 20 against 11 of them, and all five that Campbell faced twice.

Mokseckas and Vaistaras each followed with 13 to join Dell'Orso in double figures.

Campbell returns home to face NC A&T for the regular season finale Saturday at 4 p.m. That game will tip off at 4 p.m. on FloHoops.
