Campbell heads to Delaware, Drexel

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell travels for its next two games, facing Delaware on Friday at 7:00 PM before heading to Drexel on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM.

NATIONALLY RANKED DEFENSE

  • Campbell is the only program in the nation to be ranked in the top-25 in scoring defense in each of the past seven seasons. UConn is the next closest program to accomplish the feat, having done so in six of the past seven seasons
  • Campbell has held 41 opponents to 40 points or less and 103 opponents to 50 points or less in the Ronny Fisher era (since 2016-17)
  • This season Campbell ranks:
  • 7th nationally in scoring defense (54.0 points per game allowed)
  • 22nd nationally in field goal percentage defense (36.6%)
  • 5th nationally in three-point percentage defense (25.1%)
  • Additionally, Campbell ranks 15th nationally giving up only 13.5 fouls per game

LAST TIME OUT

  • Shy Tuelle scored a season-high 20 points as Campbell defeated Hofstra 65-51 Sunday afternoon at Gore Arena
  • The Camels made 13 total threes on the day led by Tuelle who made six and Brittany Staves who connected on four shots from deep
  • Campbell opened the game with back-to-back threes and led by 10 as Staves knocked down her second midway through the first period. Hofstra battled back and ended the second quarter on a 10-3 run to cut Campbell's lead to 34-33 at the half
  • The Pride took its first lead of the game after the break and led by as many as four after consecutive baskets from Zyheima Swint and Brooke Anya. Campbell bounced back and regained the lead by the end of the third quarter as Svenia Nurenberg scored on a layup through contact and converted the free throw while Tuelle drained a three
  • Campbell gained plenty of breathing room in the fourth quarter, opening the period on an 11-2 run that featured consecutive threes by Staves. Tuelle, who went 3-of-3 from behind the arc in the final quarter, gave the Camels its largest lead of the day with her sixth three of the day
  • Tuelle finished shooting 7-of-10 from the field including 6-of-9 from three, while adding four boards, three assists and a steal. Staves had 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting from deep while Ezumah added nine points. Audrey Fuller tied her career-high with six assists off the bench
  • Hofstra was led by 15 points from Swint who made 7-of-11 shots and added eight boards
  • CU shot 46.0 percent (23-of-50) from the field, 50.0 percent (13-of-26) from three and made 6-of-8 free throws. Hofstra made 41.3 percent (19-of-46) from the floor and 37.5 percent (6-of-16) from three for the game but were limited to just 18 points and 12 turnovers in the second half

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

  • Delaware holds a 10-16 overall record and a 6-8 mark in CAA games this season
  • The Blue Hens have four players averaging 9.0 points or more led by Tara Cousins' 11.1 points per game
  • Delaware is led by second-year head coach Sarah Jenkins
  • Drexel enters the weekend at 12-13 overall and tied with the Camels in CAA play with a 7-7 league record
  • Senior guard Brooke Mullin leads the team averagin 10.9 points and 3.8 assists

  • Campbell meets Delaware for the first time in program history
  • The Camels will face off against Drexel for just the second time ever. Campbell won the inaugural matchup against the Dragons, 71-52 at the Virginia Tech Tournament on Dec. 30, 1992.

SCORE 60 AND WIN

  • Campbell is undefeated in games this year when it scores 60 points or more (11-0) and has scored over 60 in all but three wins this season

NUNEZ DROPPING DIMES

  • Sophomore guard Gemma Nunez leads the team averaging 3.3 assists which ranks No. 9 in the CAA
  • Nunez, who has recorded 5 or more assists in five games this season, holds a 1.32 assist/turnover ratio which ranks No. 6 in the CAA

SHARPSHOOTING SHY

  • The program leader for three-pointers made, Shy Tuelle has remained as one of the best shooters from behind the arc in the nation
  • Tuelle ranks 3rd in the CAA shooting 37.3 from behind the arc and 3rd in the league with 60 threes made on the year, averaging 2.40 per game
  • The Hampton, Tenn. native has totaled 281 threes in her career and is one of 22 active Division-I players to have made 270 or more career three-pointers

EZUMAH EFFICIENCY

  • Ezumah is one of the most efficient forwards in the nation shooting 56.7 percent from the field
  • She ranks 18th amongst active Division-I players shooting 58.9 percent from the field for her career
  • Despite playing the fifth-most minutes per game (24.1) on the team, Ezumah leads Campbell averaging a near double-double behind 12.4 points per game and 7.8 rebounds

ADVANTAGE IN THE CREEK

  • Under head coach Ronny Fisher, Campbell has compiled a 82-33 (.711) record at home in Buies Creek including a 51-16 (.758) mark across the past five seasons
  • Over the past seven seasons, Campbell has held foes to 49.4 points per game and outscored its opponents by an average of 12.0 points when playing inside Gore Arena
  • Since the 2016-17 season, the Camels have held foes to 40 points or less 28 times at home
  • Campbell finished non-conference play this season with a perfect 4-0 record and are currently 9-3 in The Creek this season

BLOCKING MACHINE

  • Christabel Ezumah (41 blocks this season, 120 career blocks) has recorded four or more blocks in four games this season and ranks 55th nationally and 3rd in the CAA averaging 1.64 blocks per game
  • She moved into 2nd on Campbell's all-time blocks list recording her 112th block against Northeastern on Jan. 28
  • Ezumah previously recorded her 100th block against ETSU on Dec. 17 and moved into third on the program's all-time block list after recording her 102nd block at Stony Brook on Jan. 5
  • Amanda Coffer (2013-16) owns the program record for career blocks at 163

HEAD COACH RONNY FISHER

  • A three-time Big South Coach of the Year, Ronny Fisher is in his eighth season at the helm of Campbell women's basketball
  • Over the previous seven seasons Campbell has won 135 games for an average of 19 wins per season
  • Before leaving the Big South for the CAA, Fisher was the longest-tenured Big South coach in his 15th season and led all active coaches in the league with 232 wins overall including 146 in Big South play before the 2023-24 season
  • Under Fisher, the Camels claimed the 2019-20 and 2021-22 Big South regular season titles and finished as Big South tournament runners-up in 2019, 2021 and 2022
  • Fisher has also led Campbell to its first-ever WNIT berth in 2021-22 along with two other postseason appearances in the WBI. He helped the Camels claim their first ever postseason win in the 2019 WBI
  • Previously served as head coach at Presbyterian (2008-16)
