Camels blast eight home runs in 20-5 win over Bucknell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Campbell Fighting Camels hit eight home runs in a 20-5 victory over Bucknell Sunday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium to complete the series sweep.

The Camels recorded runs in each of the first seven innings on way to their first 20-run outing since a home matchup against UNCW in May of last year. It is their second consecutive home weekend sweep, doing so to Ohio two weeks ago.

The eight home runs are the most hit by Campbell since launching 10 in a win over Presbyterian in March of 2022.

Grant Knipp had three home runs to lead the Camels (11-4), while Dalen Thompson added two of his own. Knipp's three home runs are tied for second-most by a Campbell player in a single game.

Campbell scored two in the first inning with the first of Thompson's home runs, a two-run shot to left center.

The Bison (6-8) came back with one run in the top of the second when Billy Kender hit a solo home run.

Campbell added another four in the bottom of the second. Braeden O'Shaughnessy doubled to center field to score Andrew Schuldt, then Jonah Oster hit a three-run homer to left.

The Bison answered with four runs of their own in the top of the third inning with an RBI single and a bases-clearing double.

Freshman Ethan Snyder came on in relief of starter Cy Cox in the frame. Cox allowed four hits while striking out four in his first start of the season, going 2.2 innings. Snyder's day would finish after 3.1 innings of scoreless work.

Fellow freshman Nate Brittain came out of the bullpen and pitched the final three innings for the Camels. Brittain recorded six strikeouts in his outing, while allowing only two hits and zero walks.

Knipp's first home run came in the bottom of the third. He sent the ball 440 feet to left center to score O'Shaughnessy and Charlie Meglio.

The Camels added another two in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run from Lawson Harrill, his fifth of the season, and an RBI ground out from Schuldt.

Harrill added yet another RBI in the fifth with a double to left. He then scored later in the inning on a Dylan Koontz ground out to first base.

Knipp's second home run was a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Camels scored their final six runs in the seventh inning on three separate two-run homers. O'Shaughnessy launched the first one to straightaway center to score Schuldt. Knipp followed that with his third of the day to score Oster. Finally, Thompson bookended the game with his second home run, scoring Max Weller.
