WASHINGTON, D.C. - Christabel Ezumah recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 boards to lead Campbell over Elon 67-52Â in the second round of the CAA Championship at the Entertainment & Sports Arena.
Eighth-seeded Campbell (17-13) advances to the Friday's noon quarterfinal against one seed Stony Brook (25-3).
Campbell jumped out to a 14-3 lead in the first quarter, holding the Phoenix to 1-of-12 from the floor and without a field goal for over nine minutes. Elon's bench scored 11 points in the second quarter and fueled a 7-0 Phoenix run to help cut Campbell's lead to 28-22 at halftime.
The Camels regained a double-digit lead in the third and led by as many as 15 following a following three made free throws by Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald. Ezumah scored four points and added seven boards in the frame to secure her second straight double-double and eighth of the season.
Campbell never let up its double-digit lead in the fourth, making 14-of-16 free throws down the stretch to seal the game.
Coming off a 16-point and career-high 21 rebound performance in last Saturday's regular season finale at Hampton, Ezumah made 7-of-10 shots and added four blocks and two steals in 23 minutes.
Brittany Staves added 16 points, four boards and three assists while Svenia Nurenberg finished with nine points, three rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Shy Tuelle scored eight points and passed Sharon Williams (1979-83) for 8th on the program's all-time scoring list (1,414 career points).
Iycez Adams scored 17 points for the Phoenix who finish the season 11-21 overall.
The Camels shot 44.4 percent (20-of-45) from the field and made a season-high 26 free throws on 83.9 percent (26-of-31) shooting from the charity stripe. CU outscored Elon 32-22 in the paint, held a 38-31 edge on boards and limited the Phoenix to shoot 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the field and 2-of-6 from three.
