BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell baseball earned their first conference win of the year with a 9-6 victory over Delaware Saturday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.
Campbell (17-5, 1-1 CAA) scored in each of the final four innings to fuel their come-from-behind victory over the Blue Hens (10-11, 1-1), including seven combined runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
Delaware was on the board first with two runs in the second. Aiden Stewart hit an RBI single up the middle, and Aaron Graeber scored a run on a groundout to first base.
The Blue Hens added another two in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Aidan Kane recorded an RBI groundout and Graeber singled to left to score Jake Dunion.
Cooper Clark got the starting nod and went 3.2 innings with a strikeout. Packy Bradley-Cooney came on in relief and went 3.0 innings. He struck out five and allowed only one hit.
Drew Siegner also came in and recorded two outs, including the last out of the seventh.
Campbell answered with their first run of the game in the fifth inning. Reed Stallman hit a solo home run to right center field, his fifth of the season.
The Fighting Camels came all the way back to tie it in the sixth inning. Andrew Schuldt hit a bases-loaded double to score Lawson Harrill and Dalen Thompson. After Stallman was hit by a pitch, Charlie Meglio brought around Dylan Koontz to score on a groundout to second base. Chandler Riley capped the scoring with a single, scoring Schuldt.
Riley led the Camels from the plate, going 4-4 with a double and an RBI. He was the only Camel with multiple hits, but eight different batters recorded a hit in the Campbell lineup.
Delaware went back on top, 6-5, with a sacrifice fly from Bryce Greenly.
Payton Howard tied the game back up on the first pitch in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run to center field that traveled 438 feet.
The go-ahead run was scored by Harrill, who was on second base when Koontz earned a walk. Harrill made a break for third base when Delaware wasn't paying attention, and it forced an errant throw over to third from the pitcher. Harrill came around to score, and Koontz advanced all the way to third.
Schuldt then scored Koontz with a groundout to second base.
Delaware added one more in the eighth with an RBI single from Stewart. Jackson Roberts then came on the mound and recorded the final two outs in the eighth with the Camels leading, 8-6.
Grant Knipp recorded his only hit of the day in the bottom of the eighth, an RBI double to score Riley and put the Camels up by three.
Roberts came back on the mound in the top of the ninth against the top of the Blue Hen lineup. He struck out the batters in order to secure the win.
