Charleston defeats Campbell 60-57

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Jenna Annecchiarico scored 24 points to lead Charleston past Campbell 60-57 Thursday night at Gore Arena. Campbell drops to 15-13 overall and 8–9 in conference play with the loss while Charleston improves to 20-8 and 12-5.

The Camels honored head student manager Brenna Wilson alongside student-athletes Taylor Cotter, Christabel Ezumah, Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald, Svenia Nurenberg, Brittany Staves and Shy Tuelle in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Night.

Tuelle led Campbell with 19 points in her final home game while Staves added nine. Gianni Boone added 10 points off the bench while Ezumah finished with five point and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Annecchiarico made 9-of-18 from the field and 3-of-6 from three and was one of three Cougars to play all 40 minutes. Alexis Andrews joined her in double-figures for Charleston, providing 14 points and eight rebounds.

Campbell jumped out to its largest lead of the game in the opening quarter, making 8-of-16 shots from floor and 3-of-4 from three. Boone scored eight of her 10 in less than four minutes of action off the bench in the first quarter.

The Camels entered halftime leading 29-28 after the Cougars closed out the first half with consecutive baskets off CU turnovers and a second-chance lay-in from Andrews.

Annecchiarico put the Cougars ahead 59-57 on her jumper with 1:39 left and went 1-of-2 from the charity strip with seven seconds left to put Charleston up three. Tuelle had two looks to tie the game from behind the arc in the closing seconds but had missed on both attempts.

Campbell held a 42-33 edge on the boards and outscored the Cougars 16-2 in bench points and 13-6 in second chance points. Charleston finished with a 13-5 advantage in points off turnovers and outscored Campbell 14-5 on breaks.

Campbell wraps up the regular season on Saturday in a 4:00 PM tip at Hampton.
