Camels come from behind to win 9-8, clinch series versus Bucknell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After giving up eight runs in the third inning, the Campbell Fighting Camels (10-4) came-from-behind with runs in three consecutive innings to defeat the Bucknell Bison (6-7) Saturday night at Jim Perry Stadium.

The game was initially slated to start at 3:00 p.m. but was pushed to a 6:00 o'clock start due to rain in the area.

The Camels got on the scoreboard first with two in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Braeden O'Shaughnessy drew a walk to bring home Dylan Koontz. Three batters later, Payton Howard was hit by a pitch to score Charlie Meglio.

The Bison answered with eight runs in the third inning, all from RBI hits. They had three RBI singles, two RBI doubles, and one two-run home run.

Drew Siegner came on in relief and recorded the final out of the third. He would then go on to complete the fourth, fifth and sixth. He allowed only three hits and no runs, with three strikeouts against 14 batters. Siegner was awarded his first career win in the effort.

The Camels' offense scored two more in the fourth with a two-run homer from Grant Knipp. He now sits at eight home runs and 20 RBI this season.

Campbell then tied the game in the fifth with four more runs. Koontz scored first on a bases-loaded wild pitch. Trenton Harris placed a sacrifice bunt down the first base line to score Meglio, and Harris reached first on a fielding error by the first baseman.

Two batters later, Howard hit a long sac fly to center field. Peyton Bonds came in to score, and Harris would follow him home after a throwing error by the shortstop.

In the following inning, Dalen Thompson reached on a single to start it off. He advanced to second on a wild pitch, then moved to third on a fielder's choice from Bonds. On third, Thompson scored on another wild pitch from the Bucknell pitcher to put the Camels on top.

Packy Bradley-Cooney took the mound in the top of the seventh and shut out the Bison the rest of the way to secure his third save of the year. He allowed zero baserunners in the seventh and eighth innings, recording two strikeouts in each frame.

In the ninth, Bradley-Cooney allowed one single and a walk, but notched his fifth strikeout by freezing the batter on an 0-2 count for the last out of the game.
