HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Campbell bounced back from yesterday's loss with a gritty 7-5 victory over Hofstra Saturday afternoon at University Field.
Campbell (25-12, 7-7 CAA) allowed Hofstra (13-25, 4-10 CAA) to score the first three runs of the game with one in the first and two in the second, all from RBI singles.
The Camels got on the scoreboard with a solo home run from Charlie Meglio in the top of the third. After Meglio's home run, Hofstra's starting pitcher was ejected after throwing a fastball over the head of Peyton Bonds.
Dalen Thompson followed that in the fourth inning with a solo shot of his own that cleared the scoreboard in right center. The knock was his 10th of the season, and he's the third Camel to reach double digit home runs.
Campbell took the lead in the fifth inning, as the first three batters reached to load the bases. With one out, Chandler Riley worked a seven-pitch walk to tie the game at three. Lawson Harrill laced a double to left to score two more runs.
Right-handed pitcher Cooper Clark went 5.0+ innings in the start. He struck out four batters on the day, allowing Hofstra's five runs.
The Pride tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run and an RBI ground out.
The Camels took the lead back in the top of the seventh with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Reed Stallman. One more insurance run was added in the top of the ninth by Dylan Koontz and his solo home run.
Today was Koontz's first action after coming back from a hand injury. He replaced Grant Knipp as designated hitter when Knipp was hit by a pitch earlier in the game.
Jeremy Wiegman was first out of the bullpen, and he went 2.0 innings, allowing only one hit in the sixth and seventh innings. His effort earned him the win, and he sits at 2-2 on the year.
Packy Bradley-Cooney pitched the final two innings to earn his fourth save this season. He allowed only one hit with four strikeouts, and he faced only one above the minimum.
