ELON, N.C. – No. 2 seed William & Mary overcame an early deficit to defeat No. 7 seed Campbell 4-1 on Friday afternoon in CAA Championship quarterfinal play at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Tribe moved to 16-5 on the season, winning their 12
th consecutive match, while Campbell's inaugural CAA season comes to an end at 12-9 overall.
The Camels jumped out front, winning the doubles point with
Mialy Ranaivo and
Tamsin Hart topping Francesca Davis and Mila Mejic, and
Lily Chitambar and
Mariana Ossa downing Ine Stange and Hedda Gurholt, both by 6-2 decisions.
In singles play, Davis evened the team scoring for the Tribe with a 6-3, 6-1 win over CU's
Veronika Prospalova, and Yu Chen added a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Chitambar. William & Mary secured the dual with a pair of three-set wins, with Stange edging Ossa 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, and Gurholt defeating Ranaivo 6-4, 0-6, 6-2.
William & Mary advances to Saturday's semifinal round, taking on the winner of Charleston and UNCW.
