BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Camels (27-14, 8-9 CAA) dropped the second game in the series to College of Charleston (30-11, 13-4), 17-2, Saturday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Cougars opened the game with 10 unanswered runs through the middle of the fifth inning. Cole Mathis led the team with five hits and seven RBI on the day, including home runs in the fifth and eighth innings.
The Mathis home runs were the only two long balls for the Cougars on the day, who also recorded five RBI singles, one RBI double, one sacrifice fly, and scored on two wild pitches.
As a team, the Cougars totaled 19 hits, only three of which went for extra bases.
The Camels put their two runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run home run by Grant Knipp. He and Lawson Harrill are tied for the team lead at 18 homers.
Charleston scored in consecutive innings from the fourth to the eighth, topping with four runs in the fifth and eighth innings.
Will Baumhofer recorded four hits for the Cougars, capped with a two-run RBI double in the seventh.
Dalen Thompson knocked three hits to lead the Camels, and Chandler Riley had two, as Campbell tied their second-lowest scoring output of the season.
The Camels threw seven pitchers on the day, including starter Cooper Clark, and Zach Sabers, who had the longest outing at 2.2 innings.
