Camels drop final game of series against College of Charleston, 12-8

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell baseball's come-from-behind effort fell short on Sunday, dropping the series finale to College of Charleston, 12-8, at Jim Perry Stadium.

The Camels (27-15, 8-10 CAA) hit five home runs on the day, scoring all eight of their runs by way of the long ball. Charlie Meglio had two to put him at nine on the season.

Lawson Harrill hit his team-leading 19th of the year in the sixth inning. Max Weller and Andrew Schuldt contributed the other two homers on the day.

The Cougars (31-11, 14-4 CAA) scored in the first inning for the third time this series with an RBI single and a wild pitch to take an early 2-0 lead. They added one more in the second with an RBI groundout.

Meglio hit his first home run in the bottom of the second, a solo shot, to put the Camels on the board. That was followed by eight unanswered runs from Charleston in the fifth and sixth innings to go up 11-1.

Campbell found themselves in a big hole for the second consecutive day but was able to do some damage in the later innings today. Harrill's solo shot in the bottom of the sixth was followed by a two-run homer from Schuldt.

Meglio's second long ball of the day was another two-run shot in the seventh. Weller followed with a two-run home run of his own in the eighth to bring the Camels within three, 11-8. The knock was Weller's second of the season, and he led the Camels at the plate today with three hits.

Charleston added an insurance run in the top of the ninth as Dylan Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to center field. The Cougars recorded four RBI singles and no runs came from extra-base hits. They also scored on two wild pitches, a bases-loaded walk and two sacrifice flies.

Jackson Roberts had the best day on the mound for the Camels. He pitched the final three innings, allowing only one hit and one run to three strikeouts while facing just 11 batters.

Connor Campbell earned his seventh win for the Cougars, and Davis Aiken recorded his ninth save this season.
