Edwards, McLellan sign as NFL undrafted free agents

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell offensive tackles Mike Edwards and Tyler McLellan have both agreed to terms with NFL teams following the 2024 Draft.

Edwards will sign with the Buffalo Bills, while McLellan will head to the Los Angeles Chargers.

A Hope Mills, N.C. native, Edwards was a two-time All-American at Campbell, a first for the program, also collecting First Team All-CAA honors in 2023. Starting and playing 10 games for the Camels at left tackle this season, the 6-foot-7 Edwards was named First Team All-Big South Conference in 2022.

McLellan, meanwhile, was a four-time all-conference honoree (first, second or third team included) at Campbell, including Third Team All-CAA in 2023. The North Charleston, S.C. product earned First Team All-Big South honors in 2021, as well as Second Team accolades in 2019 and 2020. The graduate student started all 11 games of the season at right tackle last season.

The duo helped push Campbell to over 400 yards of total offense six times, including 613 yards in a 56-7 win at The Citadel, the third most ever in a single game and a school record against an NCAA Division I opponent.

At season's end, Campbell's offensive line, bookended by Edwards and McLellan, ranked No. 2 in the FCS in pass blocking efficiency (93.2), according to PFF. The CU offense also led the CAA and stood fifth nationally in pass completion percentage (.702), 10th in first down offense (250), 15th in third down conversion percentage (.454) and 17th overall team passing efficiency (150.84).

This is the second consecutive year that multiple Camels have signed with NFL teams following defensive end Brevin Allen with the Los Angeles Chargers, tight end Julian Hill with the Miami Dolphins, and safety Aaron Maddox with the Indianapolis Colts in 2023.

Hill made history as the first Campbell product to make an NFL 53-man roster, while Allen became the first Camel to play in an NFL regular season game.

Other Camels to join the NFL ranks include running back De'Shawn Jones (Seattle Seahawks, 2018 rookie minicamp), defensive tackle Greg Milhouse (New York Giants, 2016 NFL Preseason; Seattle Seahawks, 2017 NFL Preseason), long snapper Daniel Dillon (Arizona Cardinals, 2016 NFL Preseason), and defensive end Ugonna Awuruonye (Atlanta Falcons, 2016 rookie minicamp).
