BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell baseball dropped the first game in the series against visiting North Carolina A&T, 13-6, Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.
The Camels (20-9, 3-4 CAA) scored the first five runs of the game in the second inning. Peyton Bonds worked a bases-loaded walk for the first run of the game. The next batter, Chandler Riley, hit a grand slam to right center to clear the bases. It's the third grand slam of the year for Campbell by three different hitters.
The Aggies (18-11, 3-4 CAA) then scored at least one run in each of the six subsequent innings, highlighted by three runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.
Campbell scored one more run in the bottom of the seventh. Andrew Schuldt led off the inning with a single. Two batters later, Braeden O'Shaughnessy laced a double down the left field line, scoring Schuldt from first base.
N.C. A&T answered with their final run in the top of the eighth inning to make the final scoreline. Their 14 hits tied the most given up by Campbell this season (three times).
The Camels left 11 runners on base, leaving the bases loaded with no runs scored in the fourth and sixth innings. Outside of the second inning, they did not string together consecutive hits.
