Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Camels blank Old Dominion 1-0

Matos' goal backs up Leviton's second-straight shutout

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Filipe Matos scored the game's lone goal in the 15th minute and Max Leviton recorded his second-straight shutout Thursday to lift Campbell to a 1-0 victory over Old Dominion at Eakes Athletics Complex.

Campbell (3-0) completes its three-match home stand undefeated and extends its home winning streak to six games. Old Dominion (1-2) drops its second-straight match after being held scoreless for the first time this season.

Matos, who registered his third goal in as many games, scored off a header on a cross in from Teva Lossec. The reigning CAA Offensive Player of the Week, Matos has recorded a point (3 goals, 1 assist) in all three games this season.

The Camels nearly added another goal before halftime as Marco Wright's shot went just left of the post after he received a volley into the box off an Owen Mikoy free kick near midfield in the 40th minute.

Matos had another look on goal in the 64th minute as Ugo Bertelli played the ball to Evans Dapaah who crossed it in. Matos charged in and shot into the side netting while colliding with ODU keeper Michael Statham.

Campbell finished with a 17-8 advantage in shots, and allowed just three attempts on goal. The Monarchs' best chance in the second half came in the 79th minute when a shot from Key White hit off the bar into Leviton who knocked it out of play. Statham made six saves for the Monarchs, including four in the second half.

It marked the second-straight shutout for the Camels who haven't allowed a goal in the past 258 minutes of play.

"The number one thing we want to do this year is to keep clean sheets," head coach Dustin Fonder said following the match. "Credit to the team, that was their mindset tonight. For them to go out and do it, I'm so proud of them."

Campbell returns to action Monday as it heads to Davidson for its first road game of the season at
