Omar Asad named assistant men's soccer coach

Former Wake Tech head coach joins Fighting Camels staff

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Omar Asad has been named assistant men's soccer coach at Campbell University, head coach Dustin Fonder announced Wednesday.

A Raleigh, N.C. native, Asad joins the Fighting Camels staff after spending the last seven seasons as head coach at Wake Tech Community College. During his time at Wake Tech, he helped lead the program to 28 wins including a Region X semifinal appearance in 2018.

"Omar brings a great energy level and passion for the position," said Fonder. "We're also fortunate he brings seven years of head coaching experience as well. I think this combination of energy and experience will be an asset to the program moving forward."

A standout player at Athens Drive Magnet High School in Raleigh, Asad continued his playing career at NC State where he received his degree in business management in 2012.

"I want to thank Coach Fonder and Coach Hall for the opportunity to be a part of the Campbell soccer family," Asad stated. "I'm very excited to work with the players and staff to help continue to elevate the program."

Asad also serves as a coach with North Carolina FC, working with the U17 and U19 ECNL regional teams.

Campbell (2-0) wraps up a 3-match home stand Thursday at 7 PM against Old Dominion.
