Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Clemson defeats Campbell 3-1, hands Camels first home loss

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell women's soccer dropped their first home game of the year, falling 3-1 to Clemson Sunday afternoon at Eakes Athletics Complex.

The Camels (1-2-3) allowed two first half goals for just the second time this season, as the Tigers (4-1) opened the scoring with an own goal in the 33rd minute.

Clemson added to their lead in the 40th minute off the boot of Christian Brathwaite. Sydney Minarik and Kam Pickett combined to get the ball to Brathwaite, and she fired it into the bottom right corner from outside the box.

The Tigers never ceased the pressure, recording 15 shots in each half of the action. Of the 30 shots, 12 were placed on goal.

STORY EDIT 9-3
Upon further review, the below Campbell goal has been amended to an own goal by Clemson.

Campbell answered with a goal of their own in the first five minutes of the second half. Abby Connolly drew a foul, creating a free kick opportunity near the Campbell bench. Meghan Bernetti stepped up and placed the ball into the box, and Connolly found herself at the end of the pass to guide it into the net.

Connolly now holds the team lead with three goals and seven points through six games.

Clemson maintained the game for most of the second half. They ended the contest with 60% possession, and their final goal came in the 74th minute. Dani Davis fired a shot that was blocked by a defender, and the ball fell right to the feet of Kendall Bodak, who slotted into the bottom right corner.

Goalkeeper JLo Varada saw her first action of the season when she played in the second half. She replaced Sierra Vance, who had recorded her fourth consecutive start between the pipes.

The corner kick disparity continued for the Camels, who lost that battle to Clemson, 9-0. Through the first six games of the season, they have created only 14 corner kick opportunities compared to their opponents' 51.
