Campbell hosts Monmouth Saturday in battle of unbeatens

BUIES CREEK, N.C. -  Campbell (4-0-2, 1-0-0) welcomes fellow unbeaten Monmouth (3-0-2, 0-0-1) Saturday at 2 PM in CAA action at Eakes Athletics Complex. Admission is always free to all Campbell men's soccer regular season home games. The game will not be broadcast but fans can follow along with live stats.

LAST TIME OUT: Campbell - Filipe Matos scored his fourth goal of the season and Campbell remained unbeaten with a 1-1 draw against a VCU team receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches national poll. Monmouth - Also remained unbeaten with a 1-0 win over La Salle on Tuesday.

SCOUTING MONMOUTH: Monmouth, one of five unbeaten CAA teams along with Campbell, heads into Saturday's match with a 3-0-2 record overall and a 0-0-1 mark in CAA play. The Hawks drew 2-2 against Stony Brook to open conference play last weekend. Senior midfielder Erik Reis leads the Hawks with four goals and one assist while Junior midfielder Patrick Osiecki has scored three goals. Eryk Dymora, a third team all-region performer a year ago, mans the Monmouth nets. Voted to finish second in the CAA preseason poll, the Hawks are led by Robert McCourt in his 21st season as head coach.

SERIES HISTORY: Campbell and Monmouth meet for just the third-time ever on Saturday. Last season's matchup, in which the Hawks won 1-0, marked the first meeting between both sides since 1983. The Hawks lead the all-time series 2-0.

UNBEATEN START TO THE SEASON: Campbell's 4-0-2 unbeaten start to the season marks the best record to open a campaign since 1988 (7-0). The Camels haven't trailed this season and have led opponents for 240 minutes and remained tied with foes for 300 minutes.

STRONG DEFENDING: Campbell has conceded just two goals through six games this season. The Camels have recorded four clean sheets and went 488 minutes without allowing a goal. Campbell's 0.333 goals against average is the best mark in the country amongst teams that have played six or more matches. Opponents are averaging 6.3 shots, 2.0 shots on goal and 2.2 corners against the Camels defense.

RANKED #4 IN THE ATLANTIC REGION: The Camels moved up to #4 in the entered the United Soccer Coaches Atlantic Region poll after entering the poll at #5 last week. CAA programs ranked ahead of the Camels in the poll include nationally-ranked Hofstra (#1) and Elon (#2) along with Charleston (#3), followed by Delaware (#5), Monmouth (#7) and UNCW (#9)

LOSSEC NAMED CAA DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Junior defender Teva Lossec earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 9. The Frenchman helped the Camels to a pair of shutouts on the week and scored the lone goal of the game in 1-0 win at Northeastern to open conference play

HOME, SWEET HOME: Campbell stands 35-5-10 in its last 50 matches overall at the Eakes Complex. Last season the Camels finished 4-1-3 at Eakes with its only loss coming to #5 Wake Forest. In 10 seasons under head coach Dustin Fonder, Campbell is 54-12-21 at home.

SILVERWARE COUNT AT SIX SINCE 2018: Between regular season and tournament titles, Campbell has won six overall since 2018 (Big South Double: 2019 & 2021, Big South Tournament: 2018, Big South regular season: 2022)

HEAD COACH DUSTIN FONDER (Roanoke, '94) is in his tenth season at Campbell (92-54-23 overall, 46-21-7 Big South/CAA).  His overall head coaching record stands at 170-117-41, including a 79-63-18 mark in eight seasons at High Point. In 2022, Fonder led Campbell to claim the Big South regular season title, the program's third in last five years, behind a 6-1-1 conference record. He has guided CU to 6 Big South trophies and 3 NCAA appearances (2018, 2019, 2021) over the past six seasons
