Camels drop CAA opener to Delaware

BUIES CREEK - Campbell dropped its CAA opener in straight sets to Delaware Saturday afternoon at Gore Arena. The Blue Hens hit .415 on the afternoon to dispatch the Camels.

The loss drops Campbell to 2-9, 0-1 on the year, while Delaware moves to 5-3, 1-0.

Campbell hit .435 in the first set, but it wasn't enough as the visitors hit a blistering .526 in the opening frame. CU hung close and found itself trailing by just three at 18-15 before a late run by Delaware helped them capture a 25-19 first set.

It was more of the same in the second, this time with things tied at 16-16 before a late Delaware run allowed the guests to pull away. The Blue Hens closed on a 9-2 run to claim the second set 25-18.

The third set wasn't as close, with Delaware using a 5-0 run and a 6-0 run within the set to win the third 25-12 and the match 3-0.

Campbell struggled with Delaware's serve and surrendered 11 aces in the match. The Camels had five themselves, led by Riley Dean with three.

Emily Campe tallied a team-high eight kills, with Maddie Converse leading with 14 assists. Dean registered a team-high nine digs.

The Camels are back in action tomorrow against Delaware at 1 p.m.
