Camels fall in straight sets to Delaware

BUIES CREEK - Campbell fell to Delaware in straight sets for the second day in a row to open CAA play. The loss is the sixth in a row for the Fighting Camels.

Campbell drops to 2-10, 0-2, while Delaware moves to 6-3, 2-0.

Campbell hit only .054, while the Blue Hen's offense hit .320 on the afternoon. Three players for Delaware logged 12+ kills in just three sets.

The Camels fell behind 6-1 in the first set and never worked back into it as Delaware took it 25-16. Despite Campbell posting its best single-set hitting percentage in the first, it turned out to be the largest margin of defeat.

It was more of the same in the second as Campbell faced an early deficit it couldn't overcome, this time ending in a 25-18 win for Delaware.

Campbell claimed its first lead of the day in the third and led by as many as 10-5, but couldn't hang on for the victory. With the score tied 14-all, Delaware ripped off an 8-0 run to essentially put away the set and the match.

Aley Clent led the Camels with six kills. Maddie Converse handed out 11 assists, while RIley Dean came up with a team-high nine digs. Campbell posted only two blocks on the day, while Delaware had nine as a team.

Campbell returns to action Friday at 4 p.m. at Charleston. That match will be streamed on FloVolleyball.
