Camels fall in straight sets at Charleston

Box Score

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Campbell fell in straight sets Friday evening at Charleston in its first CAA road game of the season.

It was all Cougars in the first set, taking the opener 25-10. The hosts put away 15 kills on .483 hitting to power past the Camels for an early advantage. Charleston, who came in as one of the nation's blocks leaders, posted three in the first set to help stifle the Campbell attack.

Campbell fell behind 5-0 in the second set and wasn't able to overcome that deficit, falling 25-17 in the second set. Campbell battled late in the set to cut the deficit from as many as 11 down to just six with a 5-0 run, but it wasn't enough to grab the set.

Charleston claimed the third and final set, 25-12. The Cougars opened with a 5-0 lead and led 12-2 after four straight service aces from Emily Banitt.

Victoria Tupy led the Camels with 10 kills while Gwen Wolkow returned to action with three kills and a team-best 12 digs. The Cougars hit .363 on the day with 14 service aces and seven blocks.

Campbell returns for its second game against Charleston tomorrow at noon.
