Camels earn first win, split matches on Friday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Campbell earned its first win of the season with a five-set win over Presbyterian as part of a split day at the Wofford Invitational. The Camels weren't able to sweep the day and fell in straight sets to the host in the nightcap.

Presbyterian Recap
The Camels earned their first win of the 2024 season with a five-set victory over Presbyterian College in the first match of the Wofford Invitational.

Campbell and Gwen Wolkow came out of the gates hot with a 25-20 first set win. Wolkow posted six kills on just nine swings in the opening set to lead the attack.

Presbyterian returned the favor and took the second set by the same score of 25-20. Campbell was on the verge of being out of it before a 5-1 run cut the deficit to just one, but the Blue Hose closed the set strong to even the score at 1-1.

CU rolled through the third set to a 25-16 win. Campbell hit .308 in the frame and served three aces to complement the attack.

The Camels couldn't close it out in four sets and dropped a close fourth set 25-22. The attack struggled in the set, hitting below zero with 13 errors in the frame.

Campbell didn't squander its second chance to earn its first win and claimed the fifth set 15-12. Four different players notched two kills each in the final set to contribute late to the win.

Four Camels notched 10+ kills on the day, led by Aley Clent with 13. Four Camels also had 10+ digs, with Maddie Converse posting a team-high 12. Wolkow, Tuyo, and Converse all logged double-doubles on the afternoon.

The Camels put away 62 kills, but committed 35 attack errors to allow PC to hang around, as the Blue Hose had just 38 kills themselves. PC was led by Hannah Rowe's 15 kills.

Wofford Recap
It was all Wofford in the early going, taking the first set 25-11 and the second set 25-16. The Terriers offense was firing on all cylinders, hitting .393 through the first two frames.

Campbell wasn't able to turn the tide in the third set, falling 25-12 in the third.

CU finished the night hitting .061, while Wofford hit a blistering .427.

Wolkow led the way with 10 kills, and was one of four Camels with five digs. Maddie Converse and Ashely Artura each handed out 10 assists.
