BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell led wire-to-wire in a 72-42 win over Hampton on Wanda Watkins & Alumni Day on Sunday afternoon at Gore Arena.
Ciara Alexander tied her career-high with 16 points to lead a balanced Campbell (8-7, 1-2) to its first CAA victory of the season.
The Camels held Hampton (4-11, 0-4) to just eight points in the opening quarter and 20 overall in the first half, marking the fewest scored in a half by a D-I foe against CU this season.
Gianni Boone scored 11 points while both Audrey Fuller and Gemma Nunez added nine for the Camels who shot 46.0 percent (29-of-63) overall. Olivia Tucker added eight points while Jessica Woods added four points and four assists.Â
Alexander gave the Camels its largest margin of victory over a CAA foe in program history (30) with less than five seconds remaining after converting a three-point play.
Overall, Campbell totaled 14 steals, scored 25 points off 19 turnovers and outscored the Lady Pirates 44-20 in the paint and 18-5 on breaks.
Hampton shot 31.4 percent (16-of-51) overall, 20.0 percent (2-of-10) from three while making 8-of-15 free throws.Â
Campbell honored legendary former coach Wanda Watkins in a pregame ceremony. Program alumni were honored at halftime featuring former Camels who finished playing as recent as 2021 and as far back as 1955.Â
The Camels return to action on Friday in a 7 PM tip against UNCW back at Gore Arena.Â
