HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Emma Von Essen scored 16 points, Chloe Sterling added 15 and Hofstra defeated Campbell 55-47 Friday night at the Mack Sports Complex.
Campbell falls to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in CAA play while Hofstra improves to 9-8 and 4-2.
Neither side led by more than five up until the final minute of the third quarter as Von Essen knocked down back-to-back threes to put the Pride up 39-33.
The Camels opened the fourth period on a 8-2 run as Courtney Dahlquist connected on a three, Audrey Fuller made a three-point play after being fouled on a layup and Gemma Nunez made a pull-up jumper in the paint to knot the game at 41-all with 5:21 to go. The Pride responded with an 8-0 run and went 7-of-8 from the charity stripe down the stretch to close out the game.
Von Essen made 6-of-12 shots from the field, including 4-of-8 from three, and scored eight of her 16 points in the third period alone. Sterling, who made 6-of-6 free throws, scored nine.of her 15 in the fourth quarter. Zyheima Saint added 10 points while Ramatoulaye Keita pulled in a game-high 14 boards.
Gianni Boone led the Camels with 10 points while both Dahlquist and Ciara Alexander added nine points. Fuller finished with six points and 11 rebounds while Nunez had six points, five boards, five assists and three steals.
Hofstra shot 32.1 percent (18-of-56) overall, 35.7 percent (5-of-17) from three and made 14-of-16 free throws, including 11-of-12 in the second half. Campbell made 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the field, 25.0 percent (5-of-20) from three and converted 6-of-9 free throws.
The Pride held a 43-36 edge on the boards and scored 14 points off 15 CU turnovers.
Campbell continues CAA play on Long Island with a trip to Stony Brook on Sunday at 1 PM.
