Camels erase 18-point deficit, beat Hofstra in OT

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Campbell erased an 18-point deficit to beat Hofstra 69-67 in overtime Saturday afternoon in front of a national TV audience. Nolan Dorsey, Jasin Sinani, and Colby Duggan combined for 62 points, including multiple clutch shots from all three, to lead the comeback win.

The win gets Campbell to 10-11, 5-3 in the CAA. The Camels are now winners of three straight and two in a row on the road on Long Island. Hofstra drops to 11-10, 3-5 in the league.

The comeback win was the largest since Nov. 30, 2015, when Campell also completed an 18-point comeback against VMI. Today marked Campbell's second-largest road comeback in program history, and largest since 1983.

Duggan poured in 23 points, 21 of those in the second half and overtime period, to lead all scorers. Dorsey scored a career-high 22 on 6-10 from beyond the arc. Sinani finished with a 17- point, 11-rebound double-double, the second of his career. That trio accounted for all 49 of Campbell's points in the second half and overtime.

Campbell struggled on offense in the opening 20 minutes, shooting just 34% along with nine turnovers. Meanwhile, Hofstra shot 50% including four three-pointers to lead by as many as 18 and carry a 36-20 at the half. Nolan Dorsey led the way with six points and three rebounds in the first half.

Campbell started the second half hot and ripped off a 12-2 run to quickly cut the deficit to just six points. That deficit hung between 6-10 for much of the second half before another Campbell run cut the lead to one point.

Things looked bleak with Campbell down by three looking to foul with seven seconds left. But a forced turnover with seven seconds left led to a transition three-pointer from Sinani in front of the Campbell bench to tie the game with 2.4 seconds remaining and ultimately force OT. That marked the closest the game had been since Campbell led 3-2. Dorsey did the bulk of his damage in the second half as well, with four second-half threes.

Overtime was a back-and-forth affair that left things tied again with 15 seconds left. Out of a Campbell timeout, the ball ended up in Duggan's hands on the baseline, where he put up a contested, turnaround jumper and got it to fall with 1.3 seconds to go putting Campbell up two. Hofstra's desperation heave was off the mark and saw Campbell take it 69-67.

Campbell shot 11-29 from distance, the most in a league game this season, and turned the ball over only twice in the final 25 minutes.

Duggan has now scored 20+ in six of the last nine games, and keeps his league scoring average at 20.5 points per game.

The Pride had five players score in double figures, led by Jean Aranguren with 14. Cruz Davis added 13 before fouling out with 2:18 left. Michael Graham scored 12 and German Plotnikov and Khalil Farmer added 11 each. Graham hauled in 21 rebounds, one shy of the Campbell opponent record.

Campbell faces Hofstra again in a week when the Pride comes to Buies Creek next Saturday. Before that, the Camels host William & Mary Thursday night at 7 p.m. on FloCollege.
