Camels come up short at UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Campbell came up short in a 77-69 loss Saturday night in Trask Coliseum. Campbell never trailed by more than 10, and the game remained a one or two possession game for most of the night that featured seven lead changes and six ties.

The setback leaves Campbell at 6-9, 1-1 on the year while UNCW moves to 11-4, 1-1 in the CAA.

Colby Duggan continued his hot streak with 22 points on 11-16 shooting. The sophomore has now scored 19+ in thee last three games. 

Duggan led four Camels in double figures joined by Jasin Sinani with 13, and Caleb Zurliene and Nolan Dorsey with 10 each. 

The Camels raced out to an early 11-2 lead thanks to forcing four turnovers in the first four minutes. UNCW responded out of a timeout to have the game tied at 14-14 and took its first lead at 21-20. Duggan carried Campbell early with 14 points while Cam Gregory added eight with a pair of triples. UNCW surged just before the break to lead 39-31 at half. 

Campbell started the second half hot as well and cut the deficit to just two by the first media and stayed within striking distance the rest of the way. Jasin Sinani had 11 in the second half and Zurliene added 10 thanks to going 6-7 at the stripe down the stretch. 

Campbell's foul trouble caught up to them late with three players fouling out and UNCW cashing in at the line, going 15-19 in the second to push the Seahawks to a 77-69 win.

Donovan Newby led the way for UNCW with 17, while Harlan Obioha pitched in 13. Khamari McGriff and Bo Montgomery made impacts off the bench scoring 15 and 12, respectively. 

The Camels return to action Thursday night at Hampton, the first of two CAA road games next week. Tip-off at Hampton is slated for 7 p.m. on FloCollege.
