Charleston pulls away late from Campbell 78-63

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston pulled away late from Campbell in a 78-63 win Sunday afternoon at TD Arena.

Charleston improves to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in CAA play while the Camels fall to 7-7 and 0-2. 

Hadleigh Dill scored a career-high 15 points going 5-of-8 from three. Gemma Nunez added seven points and nine assists, including eight in the first half, while Ciara Alexander finished in double-figures for a fifth-straight game with 11 points while adding seven rebounds.

The Cougars jumped out to a 14-3 lead to open the game, knocking down their first four three-point attempts. Campbell responded with three triples of its own and held Charleston without a field goal for the final 5:51 of the period as both teams ended the quarter tied 18-18. 

Dill knocked down back-to-back threes while Alexander tipped in her own miss with less than 14 seconds remaining to make it a 36-34 Charleston lead at the half. 

Charleston pushed its lead to as many as 10 in the third quarter after coming out of halftime on an 11-3 run. Campbell responded as Gianni Boone scored seven of her nine points in the period while both Dill and Olivia Tucker knocked down threes to make it 56-53. 

A second-chance three from Courtney Dahlquist with 5:14 remaining put the Camels down by just five before the Cougars closed out the game on a 12-2 run.

McKinley Brooks-Sumpter led all scorers with 16 points, Lara Rohkohl added 15 while both Taryn and Taylor Barbot finished with 11 points for the Cougars.

Charleston made 51.0 percent (26-of-51) of its shots overall, 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from three and converted 19-of-28 free throws. Campbell shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) from the floor, 37.9 percent (11-of-29) from three and made 8-of-12 free throws.

The Cougars scored 26 points off 23 CU turnovers and held a slight 24-20 edge in paint points

Campbell returns to action next Sunday as it hosts Hampton on Wanda Watkins & Alumni Day at 2 PM.
