HAMPTON, VA. – Campbell rushed for 301 yards and the defense picked off two Hampton passes to dispatch the Pirates 38-21 on the road Saturday at Armstrong Stadium.
Campbell moved to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in CAA play, earning its first road victory of the season, while Hampton dipped to 2-5 on the year and 0-3 in conference games.
The Camels trailed 14-3 with 5:26 to go in the first half, with Hampton turning a CU fumble into points on a Maxwell Moss 10-yard TD reception. Campbell, however, answered with nine-play, 67-yard scoring drive before the half that ended with a
JJ Cowan punch-in, adding touchdowns on its first two possessions in the second half to go along with a
Lakeem Rudolph pick-six, ballooning the lead to 31-14 with 28 unanswered points.
Rudolph's pick-six marked Campbell's first since 2021 (
CJ Tillman vs. Presbyterian).
During Campbell's decisive third quarter, the Camels outgained HU 114-6 that resulted in a 21-0 edge.
Holding a 31-21 lead late in the fourth, Cowan tacked on his third rushing TD of the day, a 63-yard scamper to seal the win.
Cowan ended the day with a career-high 142 yards on the ground with three touchdowns on 16 attempts, helping Campbell rush for 301 yards, its most-ever against a CAA opponent (since 2023).
Ethan Lawrence rushed for 80 yards on nine carries, including a 41-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and
Mike Chandler II tacked on 32 yards, while combining with
Kamden Sixkiller for 125 yards passing on 10-of-18 attempts.
Trayjen Llanas-Wilcox also hauled in three catches for 63 yards for the Camels, including a long of 31 yards in the first half.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Camels piled up a season-high five sacks and 11 tackles for loss, while
Logan Livermon totaled 10 tackles.
Ashton Miller gathered 2.5 tackles for loss with 1.5 sacks and seven total tackles, and
Jojo Pace recorded nine tackles, including a sack.
Brayden Davis led Hampton with 131 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-17 passing with two interceptions, while Moss tallied 81 yards and his second quarter score on four catches. Gracen Goldsmith also rushed for a pair of touchdowns, running for 32 yards on 10 attempts.
Defensively, Harold O'Neal III led the Pirates with a game-high 11 tackles.
