Five goal scorers propel Campbell to 5-0 win over Methodist

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Five different goal scorers carried Campbell to a 5-0 win Tuesday night at Eakes Athletics Complex over visiting Methodist University.
 
The goal tally is a new season-high for the Camels (7-3-4), surpassing the previous high they set just this past Saturday, also a shutout. The Monarchs (5-3-7) struggled to maintain an offensive rhythm, possessing the ball for about one third of the match.
 
Skyler Wright opened the scoring with a header in the box in the 21st minute for his first career goal. The freshman got on the end of a cross by Luc Lavielle, who was set up by Xander Martin.
 
Captain Jake Roberts scored his second goal of the season, also a header, on a set piece in the 39th minute. Ioannis Moros sent in a free kick from the left side, and Roberts was first to it and sent it home.
 
Campbell's final goal of the first half came by way of a penalty shot in the 42nd minute. Filipe Matos drew the foul in the box, and Ethan Roberts buried the chance from the box to the keeper's left side.
 
Kairi Saito scored his second goal of the year in the 50th minute off assists from Wright and Emilio Garza.
 
After recording an assist on the first goal of the match, Martin closed the book with his goal in the 54th minute off an assist from Saito.
 
The Campbell defense held strong, allowing just one shot on target by Methodist that came in the 79th minute. The Monarchs recorded only six shots total, compared to Campbell's 22. Each team came away with one save.
 
Max Leviton played the first half in goal for Campbell before giving way to Luke Holdstock for the second half. 46 players saw playing time in the contest, 22 for Campbell and 24 for Methodist.
