BUIES CREEK – Campbell dropped its first CAA match of the season in a 3-1 defeat to Charleston Friday night in Buies Creek.
Campbell falls to 10-4, 2-1, while Charleston moves to 9-6, 3-2 in the CAA.
Gwen Wolkow led all players with 16 kills on .382 hitting, finishing as the only Camel in double figures. The senior notched a double-double with a team-best 12 digs as well.
Campbell got off to a slow start with 7 attack errors in the opening frame against Charleston hitting .414 in the first frame. Campbell still hung close throughout the set but fell 25-21.
The Camels cleaned things up in a big way for the second set to hit .438 without an attack error to control the second set 25-17.
The second turned out to be the offense's best set of the day, as Campbell would go on to hit .188 in both the third and fourth sets, falling 25-20 and 25-22, respectively. The Camels didn't go down without a fight in the fourth, trailing 24-17 before holding off five match points in a 5-0 run, but couldn't quite even the score.
Hailey Heytvelt turned in a solid performance with 9 kills and no errors, good for .474 hitting.
Hannah Pattie dished out a team-best 24 assists.
The Camels and Cougars will square off again Saturday at 3pm.
