BUIES CREEK – Campbell fell to Charleston 3-1 Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena to mark Campbell's first back-to-back losses of the season.
The loss drops Campbell to 10-5, 2-2 in the CAA. The Cougars improved to 10-6, 4-2 with the victory.
Maja Daca had a big day with 18 kills and a career-high 20 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Gwen Wolkow notched a double-double as well with 13 kills and 12 digs.
Campbell got off to a hot start and took the first set 25-21. The Camels led the first frame by as many as nine at 18-9 before a late run pulled the Cougars back within two before kills from Daca and Lambers finished off the set.
Charleston found its rhythm in the second set and hit .346 to even the score with a 25-22 second set. The Camels led 13-11, but a 5-0 Cougar run gave the visitors the lead for good in the frame.
The third set featured more of the same, as it was close through early stages before a Charleston run broke the set open at 16-9 to eventually win it 25-20.
The Cougars finished off the match with a 25-22 fourth set. It was anybody's set tied at 21-21, but Charleston finished stronger to get to the finish line with the victory.
Campbell returns to action next weekend at UNCW. First-serve Friday is at 6 p.m. with Saturday's match beginning at 2 o'clock.
