RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State amassed 482 first half yards and defeated visiting Campbell 56-10 on Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium.
In the first matchup of the Fighting Camels (1-5) and Wolfpack (4-2) in CU's modern era (since 2008), Hollywood Smothers rushed for 123 yards on four carries, including a 59-yard touchdown run, all in the first half, helping NC State build a 49-7 lead at the halftime break.
Saturday's matchup was the third all-time for the Camels against an ACC opponent (at Wake Forest, 2020; at North Carolina, 2023).
The Wolfpack totaled 607 offensive yards in the win, including 371 through the air and 236 rushing, powered by a 28-point second quarter.
CJ Bailey completed 20-of-23 passes for 337 yards with four touchdowns, while 13 NC State receivers picked up catches, including Noah Rogers, who gathered three catches for 62 yards in the win. Jayden Scott also added 10 carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns for the Wolfpack.
Defensively, Kenny Soares, Jr. topped the Wolfpack with a game-high nine tackles.
Kamden Sixkiller, meanwhile completed 12-of-22 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown spread over 10 CU receivers.
JJ Cowan also rushed for 48 yards on 12 carries, while
Mike Chandler II made two catches for 24 yards, including a 13-yard first quarter TD from Sixkiller following an NC State muffed punt.
Jojo Pace and
Tyrek Brown led Campbell with six tackles apiece, and
Ravel Cato collected an interception.
Next up, the Camels will jump back into CAA play, traveling to Hampton on October 11 (2:00 p.m.). CU returns home on October 18, hosting New Hampshire (3:30 p.m.) for Homecoming.
