Campbell earns 3-2 victory over Charleston at home

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Fighting Camels scored two goals in the first half, and Evans Dapaah scored the game-winner to lift the squad over visiting College of Charleston, 3-2, Saturday night at Eakes Athletics Complex.

The win moves the Camels (5-2-4, 2-0-2) into a tie with Elon at the top of the CAA South Division on eight points, while the Cougars (4-7-1, 1-3-1) maintain their position in fourth with four points.

Campbell's first goal of the night came by way of a Charleston own goal in the 28th minute. Filipe Matos crossed the ball in from outside the box on the right side. Two Charleston defenders rose to head it away, and the resulting carom sailed over the head of Jourdan Schumacher in goal.

The Camels added to their lead in the 37th minute off the foot of Lotem Ben Dov, his first goal of the season. Luc Lavielle sent the ball into the box, and Ben Dov met the deflection at the top of the box and sent it through the defense.

Dapaah's goal just after halftime gave CU a 3-0 lead in the 50th minute. Kristijan Bandur sent a ball into the box from the right side, and similar to Ben Dov's goal, Dapaah was there to clean up the deflection and sent it to the upper-right corner of goal for his first of the season.

The Cougars made a game of the second half with goals in the 75th and 82nd minutes. Ben Bagshaw scored his fifth of the season for the Charleston opener, and Pavel Dashin followed that with his third goal of the year of an assist from Stian Bendvold.

Max Leviton secured his fifth win in goal for the Camels, coming up with three saves. The Camels outshot the Cougars, 12-9, and won the corner kick battle, 3-2.

Nine yellow cards were shown throughout the match, and Charleston was called for 14 fouls against Campbell's 11.
