BUIES CREEK – Campbell moved into a tie for first place in the CAA with a straight set win over Elon Saturday afternoon. The Camels completed the weekend sweep and have now won eight matches in a row, the longest win streak of the season.
Campbell improves to 18-5, 10-2 in the CAA. Elon drops to 5-18, 3-9 in the league.
The Camels outhit Elon .344 to .074 on the afternoon.
Gwen Wolkow led the way with 13 kills on .400 hitting as the only player with double figure kills.
Wolkow was at her best early, with seven kills on .778 hitting in the opening frame to help Campbell take the first set 25-16.
The defense set the tone for the second set, forcing the Phoenix into 10 attack errors as the visitors hit a flat .000 for the frame. That was plenty of cushion for the offense to operate and take the set by the same 25-16 score.
Campbell wrapped up the day with a 25-19 final set. Wolkow and
Maja Daca drove Campbell to the final set with four kills apiece as CU hit .393, its best mark of the day.
Lauren Wheeler and
Hannah Pattie tallied 18 and 17 assists, respectively.
Bella Illig anchored the defense with 10 digs.
Campbell sits atop the CAA standings with four matches to go in the season. Campbell hosts Northeastern next weekend for senior day before rounding out the year at NC A&T.
