Camels top Northeastern, win ninth straight

BUIES CREEK – Campbell took down Northeastern in four sets Friday night for their ninth consecutive win, adding to the longest win streak of the season.

The win moves Campbell to 19-5, 11-2 and remaining tied for first in the CAA. Northeastern drops to 9-13, 5-8.

Campbell came out red-hot and took a commanding 21-7 lead. A late push from the Huskies drew the set to a 10-point final deficit at 25-15. Maja Daca got the Camels rolling with three quick aces early in the frame to help Campbell lead wire to wire.

Northeastern flipped the script in the second, taking it 25-15 themselves. They did it in similar fashion with four aces of their own in the frame, keeping Campbell out of rhythm. The Camels hit .091 in the set.

After two lopsided sets, the third played evenly. Northeastern led by as many as four, but Campbell battled back and took the lead at 22-21. Abbie Tuyo came up with a kill and block on back-to-back points to give Campbell just enough room to take the set 25-23.

Campbell closed things out with a 25-21 fourth set, The Camels hit .256 in the frame for their best mark of the night. Campbell led by just two before kills from Clent and Daca pushed the Camels to the finish line.

Gwen Wolkow led the way with 12 kills, while Hailey Heytvelt joined her in double figures with 10. Hannah Pattie dished out a match-high 20 assists.

The Camels close out the home schedule tomorrow at 1 o'clock. The Camels will honor five seniors before the match: Aley Clent, Maddie Converse, Bella Illig, Abbie Tuyo, and Gwen Wolkow.
