BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Landen Clark's 96-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Fuhrmann with 1:07 remaining in the fourth quarter lifted visiting Elon over Campbell 31-24 on Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.
The Phoenix (5-6, 3-4 CAA) led 17-3 at the half before Campbell (2-9, 2-5 CAA) stormed back with 21-straight points. Elon, however, found the end zone on its final two possessions, including Clark's 96-yard go-ahead strike.
The game was Campbell's sixth one-score game of the season (1-5), and third consecutive loss by seven or fewer points.
After Campbell's defense forced the Elon 3-and-out coming out of the halftime break,
Trayjen Llanas-Wilcox took the Phoenix punt back 90 yards for a touchdown, cutting the deficit to 17-10. Llanas-Wilcox's return TD marked the longest punt return touchdown in Campbell history, and the program's first since 2017.
As the CU defense forced five-straight punts, the Camels scored on back-to-back possessions, the first, coming on an eight-play, 89-yard drive that included a 30-yard pass from
Kamden Sixkiller to
Trevor Wilson, and ending in a three-yard
Naieem Kearney TD run. Campbell then went 52 yards on six plays, reaching the end zone again on a Sixkiller keeper from two yards out, putting Campbell in front 24-17 with 8:06 remaining in regulation.
Elon responded with a 12-play, 70-yard march, tying the game on a 19-yard Clark scramble.
Taking over with 2:50 to play, Campbell needed just six plays to reach the red zone, with Sixkiller connecting with
Randall King on a 45-yard pass, but a CU fumble, forced by Asher Cunningham and picked up by Ishmel Atkins, turned the ball over to the Phoenix with 1:23 on the clock.
Two plays later, Clark found Fuhrmann for the go-ahead score. Campbell moved into Phoenix territory on its final possession, but with seconds on the clock, Sixkiller's heave to the end zone was intercepted by Elon's DJ James-Hamilton, sealing the road victory.
Clark passed for 228 yards and two touchdowns, completing 13-of-28 throws, while rushing for 59 yards and two more scores. Fuhrmann, meanwhile, hauled in three passes for 116 yards, including the 96-yard game-winner, while Jimmyll Williams rushed for 79 yards on 20 carries.
Cunningham and Tony Hart led Elon with 11 tackles each.
Sixkiller paced Campbell with 268 yards on 23-of-32 passing, adding 28 yards rushing and another TD, while King posted 103 yards on nine receptions.
Jojo Pace led CU defensively with six tackles, while
Logan Livermon posted five stops with 1.0 sack.
Next week, the Camels round out the 2025 season at Towson on November 22 (1:00 p.m.).
