Felton’s career day powers Camels past Paladins

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Jasmine Felton scored a career high 24 points to lead Campbell past Furman, 68-61, Sunday night at Timmons Arena.

A sophomore out of Elizabeth City, Felton scored 15 points after halftime, as the Camels (3-2) erased an early deficit once again to overcome the Paladins (2-3)

The Camels continued their stretch of big second quarters, outscoring the Paladins 23-10 in the frame to turn a six-point deficit into a seven-point advantage going into halftime. Defense was the catalyst for the stretch, forcing five Furman turnovers and outrebounding the Paladins, 10-3.

Olivia Tucker led the way, scoring seven points while playing the entire frame. Felton also played the whole second quarter, and she added nine points in the first half. Tucker ended the game as the only other Camel in double figures with 12 points.

The Camels continued with their momentum into the third quarter, building a 21-point lead (59-38) on a Felton three pointer with 2:31 to play. The long ball capped a 14-0 run for CU that began with another Felton three-pointer at the 4:25 mark.

The Paladins closed the gap in the final 2:15 of the frame with a 10-0 run of their own. Their deficit would have been smaller, but Furman shot just 2-10 from the free throw line in the third frame.

Campbell's defense wrestled back the momentum to start the fourth quarter, holding Furman scoreless for the first 3:39 of the final frame. The teams combined for just five points over the course of the first 5:44 of the quarter.

The Camels only mustered nine points in the fourth, but the lead they built in the second and third quarter proved sufficient, as each team scored 30 points in the second half.

Starters Hadleigh Dill and Jasmine Nivar each added seven points, while N'na Konate and Gianni Boone contributed six each off the bench.
