Camels get comeback win over UT Arlington

OGDEN, UTAH – Campbell erased a nine-point second-half deficit to down UT Arlington 71-67 in the second game of the Junction City Jam. Jeremiah Johnson scored eight straight for the Camels with less than 2:30 to play, two buckets to give Campbell the lead and a pair of free throws to put the game on ice.

Campbell moves to 3-3 on the season and splits the road trip 1-1.

DJ Smith turned in his fourth straight 20-point game, scoring exactly 20 tonight. Dovydas Butka chipped in 17 and just missed a double-double, hauling in nine rebounds.

The Camels trailed by as many as 10 in the first half, but whittled that down to a three-point deficit at the break, trailing 31-28. Dovydas Butka led the Camels with 10 points in the opening 20 minutes.

The Mavericks pushed that lead to nine again with eight minutes to play following a John Andrzejek technical foul. The Camels responded to the tech in a big way, outscoring the Mavericks 23-12 the rest of the way.

Johnson hit a tough turnaround to beat the shot clock with 2:30 to play and give Campbell its first lead since 9-7. Later trailing by one with under a minute, Johnson connected on a corner three to put the Camels ahead for good, as he and Smith put the game away at the foul line. The sophomore guard scored all 12 of his points after halftime.

Campbell returns to action Tuesday at Wake Forest. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Winston-Salem. Camel fans in the Triad can stop by the official Campbell meet up pregame. Click here for more information.
